Encaustic Minis 2016
Series 2
These small encaustic paintings are done on 4×4 in. heavyweight illustration boards and each are mounted on a signed 6×6 acid-free matboard. The illustration boards are made of 100% cotton fiber, acid-free paper.
Images in these paintings are drawn from a Chinese painting manual called “Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden” compiled during the early Qing Dynasty in the late 1600s. One technique I employed in most of the pieces is wood glue burning. It’s what gives the paintings that rich amber color.
